Examine Yourself

This week's message is a little different. I was invited to return to the church where I first came to Christ to preach what is called an examination service in preparation for a "love Feast" (Lord's Supper) service. To really understand a love feast, read John 13. In 1 Corinthians 11 Paul gives instructions on how to approach communion in a worthy manner and all of it revolves around a simple concept, examine yourself! This message is a message that guides you in what to look for in your examination. The church in which I was preaching is a church in transition, they just started a building project and they are in the process of searching for a pastor, so I also address attitudes toward these things. This is a message for anyone who wants to follow Jesus, closely. How's your relationship? Examine yourself!

The Proud Uncle Report

Just a quick note. My niece, Heather Weiss is doing amazingly this year. She is a Cross Country/Track runner for Tulpehocken HS (My old alma mater). This year, as a Sophomore, She has won the Berks County Conference Championship for the second time. She finished 20 seconds ahead of the second place runner and nearly half a minute faster than last year.

I ran track and cross country at that high school 25 years ago and I don't know what's scarier, the fact that there was a time that I was faster than she is or the fact that as a senior guy, I was only slightly faster. She's doing an awesome job. Next week she has the district meet and the following the state meet.

Take Your Temperature
The new Running A.M.O.K. Podcast has just been posted. It's the last(?) message in the series on Jesus' messages to the churches from the book of Revelation. This message to the church in Laodicea is the message to the church in the worst shape of all. They are neither hot for Jesus nor cold to Him, they are simply indifferent and complacent. They are Lukewarm. How's your temperature? Listen the message and check it out for yourself.

Just a thought...

Recently, a dear sister of mine in the Lord gave me an affirmation of my work and the way God is using it.

Sometimes it's easy to get so caught up in the vision that you forget things are happening. It's kind of funny. I spent most of my early years going to rock concerts, never met any of the artists, never really got anything out of it beyond being able to tell kids about the things I have seen (which has opened doors). Gave it over the Lord, He made it a ministry, now I meet more artists every year, write for an international publication and tour record company offices where presidents of record companies ask my opinion. It's bizarre. I struggled to become a famous artist, gave it over to God and now just by sending stuff out when I create it, people all over see it. Somewhere in here is a lesson. When I try and struggle and fight it usually doesn't go well. When I let go, and just do what I think God is leading me to do, when I forget about the naysayers who would tell me I am not qualified and just do what I do, God takes over.
