My good friend and editor Ken McCoy sent me his parody Christmas list that had several books that he just had to have. These are books that basically espouse Christian Contemporary Music as Heresy and the dangers of Christian Contemporary music, all written by David Cloud. The last item was an ash tray with a picture of Jesus on the bottom that said Jesus hates it when you smoke. I'm not a big fan of smoking either, the health risks being what they are, but first of all it says on the back of the ash tray use of this product may be hazardous to your health and your eternal soul. My first thought was how convoluted does your thought process have to be to want people to put out their cigarette on Jesus face. Ken of course was joking. He and I write for a Christian Music Youth Ministry resource and he knew this kind of stuff would "rattle my cage." It worked, here's my response.

What did you want to send me thermo nuclear this early in the morning? lol
This kind of idiocy just kills me. I think Steve Taylor said it best, if you want to be one of His you gotta act like one of us.
Oh wait Steve was joking. These people are fun to go fishing with, because all the fish jump into the boat cleaned and cry-o-vac sealed for freshness.
Good to see the pharisees are alive and well. No wonder Jesus spent so much time outside the religious community.
I leave you with this thought.

Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand

Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feet

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesus

The ever quotable Erwin McManus

When you call out men and women who have dreams and visions, who are infused by the spirit of God, who are alive in Jesus, when you help people have the burden of Christ and fall in love with people you will see everything you ever dreamed of happening. We will have no deficit of healthy churches and no deficit of churches being started across the world.-Erwin McManus

So what about it, what's your dream? What's your vision? Where is the Spirit leading you? Stop for a moment and dream with me. What if we stepped up? What if we stopped thinking that our biggest dreams were impossible and started to realize that with God all things are possible? What if we asked God to touch our hearts with the all consuming love for people that drove His son to the cross? What would be different? What would the church look like? Did you ever think that maybe that is exactly what God wants His church to be? If you build it they will come.
