Fluffernutters and transgendered children

Yes I know this is probably the weirdest title for a blog entry ever, but I can't help it. There have been two news stories in the last two days that have left me absolutely flabbergasted. First, yesterday I hear the story of Nicole/Nicholas, a little boy who wants to be a little girl so his parents are respecting that and allowing him to wear dresses. HE'S FIVE!!! What is wrong with these people? He was interviewed about it and spoke of self mutilation, but in our politically correct society no one can say that this child might have a problem that needs to be cured because that might look homophobic, again HE'S FIVE!!! Where is our nanny state government to pull him out of this home and get him the help he needs.

Well they're busy, debating important stuff like whether or not kids should be served fluffernutters in school. You know what they are, they are peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches. They're tasty but of course they could cause obesity. I am not debating that obesity is a problem. I have struggled with weight my whole life, but come on. When these two stories are put together something doesn't make sense. The same government that wants to tax anything that can make you fat is strangely silent on this poor sick child who is in desperate need of help.

I think part of the problem is a double standard. The government will readily inject themselves into obesity because fat people are the last group of people it's okay to look down on. Meanwhile, no one can dare say that this kid might have a mental illness because it's not okay to have a problem with homosexuality. This is not a homophobic position, this child needs help. He's FIVE! In the fall this child will attend kindergarten, the school is not sure what gender they will assign to this child. Without wanting to be vulgar, how difficult is that? In the old days it all came down to anatomy, but sadly once again we have blurred the lines (can you say, generation that calls evil good?") and now there will be a group of KINDERGARTNERS faced with an issue they are in no way shape of form ready to handle, but that's okay as long as no one serves them Fluffernutters, because then the government will have to draw the line.
